Yesterday I attended the Lehigh Valley Book Festival in Bethlehem, PA and had the honor of being included as a featured author for Send a Girl! (of which we sold a lot of copies!) and an independent author for Monolith, as well as several of my traditionally published titles that stores can no longer get. That’s a weird thing about publishing: even though the books are not out of print, they are unavailable for one reason or another. Sigh. Just another thing out of our control.
But on to the fun stuff.
I sold books! So, that was cool!
I also got to see my friend Angel from Parisian Phoenix Publishing. We went to high school together and unlike most people I went to school with, we’ve somehow managed to cross paths and stay connected over the last thirty years. (Geesh, I’m never saying that number again) I suppose that’s because we have a lot in common, from our rural Pennsylvania teen years and very low budget high school theater, to writing, authoring, parenting, and publishing.
What she’s done with Parisian Phoenix has been a huge inspiration to Wandering Moth Press and it’s given me a little spark of “maybe”. I envision a tiny press dedicated to children’s fiction, since that is my ultimate wheelhouse and I have a large circle of very talented kidlit writers, editors, designers who may be interested in joining me on such a journey. We will see!
All in all I’m super happy with Monolith’s first week. I get to see the sales, and even if they’re never very high, it’s still been such a rewarding and edifying experience. I’m happy I went out on that limb.
More soon!
What beautiful words! Thank you!
