I have similar feelings about social media, but I also know how vital it was during the chaos of the pandemic and the lack of leadership we endured. If we are this place again we will need our communities, both in person and virtual to be able to help each other with facts and actionable items.
I agree with you 100% on the importance of community I just don’t think the echo chamber of social media is the way to do it anymore. It can be *a* way, I suppose, but too many of us avoid real face to face conversations with people who think and live differently. Too many of us just post and scroll, neither of which does anything good. We can accomplish community in so many other more productive and authentic ways. I love my writing community online especially and I will continue to connect in new ways. ❤️
What wonderful actionable words. I especially love "don't live through bad things twice", which is exactly what social media perpetuates and one of the many reasons I've decided to leave it. But I think the most important thing is that we have to stop this rhetoric of "us/them". Across all areas of life and history, this has got to be the most damaging perspective and yet we KEEP DOING IT. I just listened to this pod today also. https://armchairexpertpod.com/pods/keith-payne Highly recommend.
